July 8, 2018 – Croatia’s progress to the semi-finals is one of the stories of the World Cup, but just how much media coverage is it getting? Quite a lot, according to one Zagreb start-up.
So just how big a story is Croatia’s achievement in the World Cup so far?
In days gone by, it was not an exact science to measure such a question, but technology has moved on, and with it some new and innovative media monitoring services come to the fore. One of the leading media monitoring businesses is a young Zagreb start-up called Mediatoolkit, which has clients all over the globe tracking keywords and mentions of their brand and areas of interest. Whereas the previous technology was to rely on press clipping services, now everything can be monitored in real time as articles hit the Internet, allowing strategic planning, crisis management and a whole range of other possibilities.
The Mediatoolkit team decided to track the keyword ‘Croatia’ to see how many times it was mentioned on the Internet at a given moment.
Something must have happened late last night…
As you can see from the lead photograph, more than 20,000 online mentions for Croatia within 30 minutes of the winning penalty, a number which is rising and rising by 8am this morning, to almost 70,000.
One wonders what the number might be should Croatia triumph on July 15… To learn more about the fabulous Mediatoolkit tools, check out their explanatory video below.
