No More Croatian Players At WTA Croatia Bol Open, But Fun Weekend Is Ahead

Total Croatia News

No Croatian players in the quarter-finals of the Croatian WTA tournament, but the organisers will provide many events for all those who plan to visit Bol this weekend

Tena Lukas was the last of the Croatian bunch at the tournament draw but on June the 8th, 2017, the Ukrainian Kateryna Bondarenko beat the young player from Kaštela 6-0, 6-2. Earlier in the morning, Tereza Mrdeža was close to getting a win, but after an exhausting match, the Romanian Alexandra Cadantu beat her 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

It was a first match against the top-100 player for Tena, and although she was not expected to win, she was disappointed after the play. Her typical Dalmatian temperament was not of help on the court, as that emotion often tends to be more a disadvantage.

One of the famous tennis writers called the iconic temperament “The Dalmatian Curse” when describing Goran Ivanišević’s path to Wimbledon trophy. One can only hope that Tena will find the way to exploit her temperament, instead of it being an obstacle to her success.

Tereza Mrdeža was on the court almost for three hours, and as it was a morning session, she was exhausted after the match: “I had a good tactical plan, but after a while, it was just too hard to attack her high spins, and it took too much of my strength.”

The tournament reached the quarter-finals, which will be played today, and apart from the sport, there are quite a few events surrounding the tournament. We will single out two: tonight on the main town square there is a performance of a young and popular Justin’s Jonhson band, and tomorrow, on the same stage, probably the best Croatian band will entertain the crowd: The Beat Fleet.

An invitation is not necessary, as the beauty of Bol and its beaches should be a motive enough to visit Bol this weekend. To end the report with tennis, we can announce that on Sunday, the Central Court in Bol will be the venue of Iva Majoli vs. Martina Hingis match, but more about that tomorrow.
