Croatian judoist Barbara Matić wins bronze medal at the last Grand Prix of the season in S. Korea
Former junior world champion, Croatian judoist Barbara Matić, continues with her medal winning streak in senior categories as well.
At the last Grand Prix of the season which is currently being held in South Korea, Barbara won a bronze medal in the category up to 70 kg, on Friday, November 27, 2015.
After defeating a Korean representative You in the first round (0,2 in penalties), she passed the British representative Fletcher with the same result in the second round. In order to reach the semi-finals she had to defeat the top seeded judoist, Vargas Koch from Germany: “Fight against the top seeded judoist turned out to be the easiest one I had in the entire tournament because we prepared well for it. I am very happy that I managed to win a bronze medal and additional 120 points just weeks after winning gold. Could I have done better? Sure, I could have won gold here too, but I am happy with the way things turned out” Barbara Matić said while proudly showing the medal around her neck after the 3rd place match against Bolder from Israel.
With the 120 ponts to her name, Barbara is now ranked 13th in the world and she has qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympics. Until May 1st, 2016, when rankings will close, Barbara will have to win as many matches as possible in order to finish in the top 8 which will mean she will be one of the top seeded judoists in the Olympic tournament.
