Good luck to our duo on the Olympic test finals in Rio
End of the International sailing Olympic test event in Rio de Janeiro is drawing near and we are anxiously awaiting the start of the final regatta in class 470 since after yesterday’s only race and despite the fact that their sailing field was changed three times, Croatian duo Šime Fantela and Igor Marenić managed to keep their No1 rankings and increase their lead in front of Matthew Belcher and Will Ryan from Australia.
Šime Fantela commented yesterday’s race and today’s game plan: “We decided on a conservative approach. We had no idea whether we would have one or two races yesterday and we were only one point ahead of the Australian team. With seven points between us, we can now breathe more easily and it gives us a great advantage for today’s finals. We havea lot of experience, both of us have won medals before, we’ll set up the boat for the conditions ahead and we’ll do our best. In our particular Olympic class even the slightest nuance can decide the race but we will try and enjoy the finals. I think the key to winning the race is to have the very best possible start”.
