This is the first time a Croatian gymnast has won world gold.

Tin Srbić, a 20-year-old gymnast from Zagreb’s Sokol, won the first even gymnastics gold medal for Croatia on a global level at the 47th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Montreal, which took place October 2 – 8, 2017.

“I don’t know, it’s amazing, I still don’t know what happened, it’s a beautiful feeling. I just need to celebrate a little, sleep it over, to see what happened and what I did. It’s amazing,” Tin said in an interview for GymCastic.

Tin says that he knew that he was good enough to qualify and that he was hoping it would happen someday, maybe not this soon. He says that he believes his dismount gave him the edge to win, making a better overall impression, which the judges liked.

He has been doing gymnastics ever since he was four, and, in addition to being a top-class athlete, Tin is currently a student at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in Zagreb, Večernji reports on October 9, 2017.

The only Croatian gymnast to win gold at the European level was Marijo Možnik in 2014.
