Unstoppable Sinković brothers and Damir Martin are in fantastic form before the Rio Olympics

With the Olympics just around the corner, it is great to see Croatian athletes winning medals and improving their results. Brothers Valent and Martin Sinković were unstoppable at the World Rowing Cup in Varese on April 17, 2016, winning a gold medal in men’s double sculls. Their success was repeated just hours later by another Croatian rower Damir Martin in men’s singles.

All of the expectations were on the two-time World Champions, Martin, and Valent Sinkovic of Croatia. Both brothers were part of the very successful Croatian men’s quad, but they are proving to be just as successful in the double. The Sinković brothers are used to leading from start to finish and that’s exactly what happened in this race, with Poland coming second and Norway in third.

In the men’s single scull finals, Martin started furiously with Natan Wegrzycki-Szymczyk in second place but with very small margins and at it was only in the 1000m mark that the scullers spread out. By the half-way mark, Martin had a huge lead and he looked as if he was in a race o his own.  Fournier, Wegrzycki-Szymczyk and Hannes Obreno of Belgium could only fight for the second place as there was no longer any doubt that Damir Martin would be a clear winner. In the end, Martin took the gold. Fournier got the silver and Obrena was third.
