Did you know the head of the Pavlomir winery from Novi Vinodolski is a Vukovar native, Miroslav Palinkaš? The winery was formed by refugees from Vukovar, led by Andrija Biro and Palinkaš, and renewed winegrowing in a valley once famous for its wine. Palinkaš has over twenty years of experience in winegrowing and fifteen in winemaking, as well as numerous medals, some of them gold and – lots of effort and love towards wine. His Chardonnay, Yellow Muscat, Cabernet Sauvignon but other sorts as well . such as White Pinot, Frankovka and Žlahtina – are widely known and valued. Vineyards found at the entrance to the Vinodol valley stretch for over thirty hectares and annually up to 150 thousand litres of wine is produced here. The Novljana fields also produce White Pinot and Frankovka. The winery is excellently equipped, with catering areas alongside, making it an excellent tourism and weekend destination.
In modern times Pavlomir is stronger and more recognisable in sparkling wines, while their superior sparkling 1288 is the only one in the world whose name is a – number. Naturally, the name associates the year when the Vinodol Code was enacted.
This August, journalists, politicians, winery friends and a few selected members of Women on Wine gathered in Novi Vinodolski to celebrate the launching of their newest sparkling wine, San Marino. The ceremony was held on the charming isle Saint Marin, only 205 metres from the east coast of Novi Vinodolski. The isle is known for winds blowing from all directions and each of them has a bench on the appropriate side of the isle. In the middle is the church of Saint Marin stemming from the early Gothic era, 17th-18th century, built on the foundations of a 4th century church. Honouring the Roman empress Helen, the edifice was erected by Flavius Julius Rufinus Sermentius. The name comes from the isle of the same name, with Miroslav Palinkaš introducing it on this occasion with undisguised pride, in hte presence of the Mayor of Novi Vinodolski, Minister Oleg Butković and County Prefect Zlatko Komadina. The weather graced the guests and offered a memorable event with a lovely sunset, with a fine meal and pleasant socializing upon their return.
