Three Croatian Restaurants Make the World’s Top 1000 List

Total Croatia News

During the official presentation of the LaListe project which lists the best restaurants in the world combining the most renowned global rating systems and guides which took place in Paris in December, a list of 1000 of the world’s best restaurants was unveiled. According to Jutarnji List and their special publication Dobra Hrana from January 4, 2016, 3 Croatian restaurants made the cut: Monte in Rovinj, Damir & Ornella in Novigrad and Stancija Meneghetti in Bale.

Restaurant Monte Rovinj

Monte, located in Rovinj and a member of the Jeunes Restaurateurs (JRE) association was in 600th place with 60,35 points. Damir & Ornella from Novigrad was ranked 618th with 59,90 points while Stancija Meneghetti took 959th place with 51,55 points. We do have to note that the complex algorithm used to calculate total scores included Michelin guide reviews, and we know Michelin does not cover Croatia, so few points could have been lost there too.

Restaurant Damir & Ornella Novigrad

The winner Restaurant de l`Hotel de Ville, Crissier in Switzerland, had a total of 82.35 points, followed by Per Se in New York in second place and Kyo Aji in Tokio in third place.

LaListe was compiled by combining reviews of the world’s top restaurants by 200 guidebooks and trusted publications and placed in one database. Each review score was converted into a standard grade ranging from 0 to 100 according to a conversion table specific to each guidebook. Several thousand chefs were then asked to rate the trustworthiness of local guidebooks after which each guidebook was given a trustworthiness index from 0 (not trustworthy at all) to 10 (very trustworthy).

For each listed restaurant the average of all standardized review scores was then calculated weighted by each source’s trustworthiness index. Finally online customer reviews were integrated giving them a 25% weight in the final LaListe score.

To add some weight to this success, we have to mention that the founder of LaListe is   Philippe Faure, former CEO of Gault Millau and current Head of the French Tourism Board, co-founders are Tibaut Tanacher writer and food critic for Le Point magazine, Jean-Robert Pitte, head of the French Mission for culinary heritage and Jean-Claude Ribault writer, wine and food critic for Le Monde while the International advisory board included 12 esteemed food critics and journalists from around the world.
