Major cleanup on the island of Prvić near Vodice.

City of Vodice has launched a clean-up in Prvić port on the island Prvić, after the locals have been complaining and warning of the problem of abandoned boats on the Donja Banda, which have been tarnishing the otherwise idyllic appearance of the island for years, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on September 28, 2017.

To make things worse, some of the negligent locals started to leave bulky waste in and around the boats, creating small wild landfills. Vodice communal officers came to the scene to examine the situation. It was agreed that the Migalo company, a concessionaire for carrying out such jobs, would clean up the port by the end of the week.

“The main problem is the boats which do not have a registration mark on them, which is why their owners are not known. These boats are in a decrepit condition and cannot be transported as such. Migala workers have already started cutting them up into smaller pieces for easier transportation on Wednesday, and will take them along with other bulky waste from the island and take care of it,” said Andrija Komadina, the communal officer in Vodice.

Construction materials, which can also be found near the abandoned boats, will be used to construct a promenade and fix the local road in Prvić port, which leads from the parish church of St. Mary from Grace to the other side of the island, and towards the coastline that overlooks the town of Srima. The City of Vodice has already signed a contract with the company Agrad Project d.o.o. from Šibenik, which will do almost 900,000 kunas (not including PDV) worth of construction work. 72 percent of the total money value of this project is secured from European funds through the Ministry of Regional Development and Funds EU.

As announced, the works will begin next week, from the end of Ulica II (Street II) to the sea on the eastern side of the uninhabited part of the island, and should be completed by the beginning of the new year. The inhabited part of the Ulica II will be redone when the construction of the sewerage network is completed, after which the installation of water supply and drainage installations and the pavement of the road will be carried out simultaneously.
