February the 7th, 2025 – There was a 10% increase in tourist arrivals in Zagreb in January 2025, kicking off a hopefully great year for the capital.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, according to data from the Zagreb Tourist Board (TZGZ), in January, Zagreb recorded almost 69,000 arrivals and 150,000 overnight stays. Those figures represent an increase of 10% in tourist arrivals and 9% in overnight stays in Zagreb compared to January 2024.
In addition to domestic guests from elsewhere across Croatia, the most numerous arrivals were realised by guests from neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as from Italy, Germany, Serbia and Slovenia. In terms of overnight stays realised, the top five foreign guests are guests from Germany, Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and the USA.
Director of the Zagreb Tourist Board, Martina Bienenfeld, stated that the results confirm the continuous growth of tourist demand for Zagreb. They also showcase the success of strategic activities aimed at developing and promoting the city as a year-round destination.
“The increase in the number of arrivals and overnight stays over the winter period is an indicator that Zagreb is going beyond seasonal limits and positioning itself as an attractive urban destination throughout the year. The recently held World Handball Championship further confirmed the importance of sports tourism for Zagreb. It attracted numerous visitors and sports fans, and, on this occasion, I’d like to congratulate our golden boys (zlatni dečki) on winning the silver medal.
I am also happy to announce the Zagreb Festival of Lights, which will take place in March. The excellence of this event in Zagreb was recognised by Forbes, which ranked it on its list of the 10 best events to visit in Europe in 2025,” concluded Bienenfeld of the increase in tourist arrivals for Zagreb.
