The gorgeous fortification architecture in Korčula town is headed for a revival

The City of Korčula on the island of the same name is known for its stunning cultural heritage, part of it being its majestic fortification architecture – the key factor when it comes to plans for preservation of this historic town and its further development as a tourist destination.

We’re happy to announce some good news on that front: the City’s latest project proposal, titled ‘Revitalisation of fortresses in the city of Korčula’, was approved and granted funding in the total amount of over 5 million kuna, reports Morski.hr on November 17, 2017.

A bit over 80% of the cited sum will be covered by the European Regional Development Fund, while the remaining 1.051.237 kuna will be invested by the City of Korčula.

The project entails revitalisation of fortresses and other defensive structures at the southern wall of Korčula’s historic centre, aiming to unite all individual elements into a single major tourist attraction. Objects that will be getting a revamp include Fort Revelin, All Saints’ Fort, and both Governor’s forts (small and large), along with the summer stage and the Governor’s Palace. The proposal also entails renovation of Fort Forteca and the adjacent bastion, as well as creation of museum programmes for all mentioned historical sites.
