Great recognition for the Town of Vodnjan in Istria: the renowned Blue flag was raised at two beaches in Peroj and Barbariga, reported Glas Istre on June 11, 2017.
The flag-raising ceremony was headed by the Mayor of the Town of Vodnjan Klaudio Vitasović and the president of the association ‘Lijepa Naša’ Dr Ante Kutle. The flags were awarded to the Town of Vodnjan by the Foundation for Environmental Education at a recent ceremony in Šibenik, following the renovation project that equipped the long strips of the shore with new promenades and a complete infrastructure.
Mayor Vitasović stated the Town is proud for being able to carry out the renovation properly, and that such an award merits attentive further maintenance of both sites. He said the two Blue flags represent incentives for the Town to continue to invest in the sustainable development of the beaches, as well as in the entire tourist offer in the area. The elaborate infrastructure at Peroj and Barbariga features multiple parking lots, beach bars, showers, changing rooms, playgrounds for children, dog-friendly beaches and green areas, and has access for disabled visitors.
The mayor thanked the ‘Lijepa Naša’ association that carries out the international Blue flag programme in Croatia, as well as all professionals working in the tourism industry. He said the Blue flags are a joint success of the Town Council and the hard-working citizens. “I believe this season will be even more successful than the last, when Vodnjan saw a record of more than 500.000 overnight stays”, said Vitasović.
