The Brijuni National Park concluded its largest recent investment project in infrastructure for visiting tourists and officially opened the Boathouse – an education and presentation centre. The project is worth a total of 9 million kuna and has been financed by the Ministry of Environment and Nature Protection through the “Integration in the EU Natura 2000” program with 3.2 million kuna, the Fund for Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency with 4.9 million kuna, the Network of Protected Areas of the Mediterranean MedPAN with 110,000 kuna, while the rest of the necessary funds have been provided by the Brijuni National Park itself, reports Glas Iste on December 5, 2015.

It is the first and so far the only centre in Istria where natural, cultural and historical features of a protected area have been presented to the public through an innovative multimedia approach using modern technology.

At the official opening ceremony, director of the Brijuni National Park Sandro Dujmović said that the Boathouse is a great example of how joint cooperation between the Ministry, the Fund, various financial institutions, the Brijuni National Park and experts in various fields can create new cultural and tourist value.

He stressed that the center is also an example of how at the same time we can preserve and present the cultural and natural heritage, but also create new jobs. “With a lot of effort and teamwork, our dream has become a reality. Brijuni, Istria and Croatia now have this innovative and attractive venue. The Brijuni National Park has long been waiting for such a facility and I think we have succeeded in raising the bar for the presentation of those features which make Croatia attractive. This historic building has been completely renovated and will now serve many future generations as well”, Dujmović said at the official opening ceremony.
