Guests’ interest in the festive season and the winter tourist season exceeded expectations, they say from Camp Plitvice, adding that interest from foreign tourists is still mostly dependent on the presence of snow.
As Marta Duic/Poslovni Dnevnik writes on the 3rd of December, 2019, Camp Plitvice, which opened back in August, is one of three five-star campsites in the Republic of Croatia. After a very successful summer season, Camp Plitvice says that guests’ interest in the festive season and winter tourism in this part of continental Croatia exceeded their expectations.
“Although for the winter bookings we’re largely dependent on getting lucky, or indeed unlucky with the weather, because the guests naturally want to see some snow, we’re full from December the 27th to December the 31st, while over Christmas the traffic is less, which was expected given the fact that this is a time for family. However, after the New Year, we’re unfortunately dependent on the weather, and we know from experience that during this period, guests usually book accommodation only a few days in advance,” they explained from the newly opened and already successful Camp Plitvice.
According to them, the most frequent guests are Germans, followed by Croats and the French, followed by the Italians and the Swiss. The average stay of guests so far is 1.7 days per guest.
“We’re open all year-round. The construction of a luxury camp, spanning 16,000 square metres and employing about thirty people, has had about 35 million kuna invested in it. The campsite has seventeen exclusively furnished and fully equipped mobile homes with terraces, thirty pitches for camping of 100 to 150 square feet and eight tent campsites,” they add.
Although this camp opened only in mid-August, it was 100 percent full during the summer season, with autumn occupancy being around 70 percent and the occupancy of the camp’s mobile homes being around 60 percent. Interestingly, as many as 90 percent of the guests at Camp Plitvice are foreigners, who we typically (and perhaps wrongly) always associate with going solely to the Croatian coast in summer.
“Currently, the biggest problem is the lack of accommodation units in relation to the demand, so we intend to expand our accommodation capacities by a minimum of twenty accommodation units and a dozen camping pitches as soon as possible,” announced Campsite Plitvice.
They also point out that only high quality accommodation can definitely prolong the tourist season in Croatia.
“This is the only correct way if we don’t want to destroy our nature with mass tourism and the concretisation of our coast,” they state from Camp Plitvice.
