Total Croatia News

Another camping option for Istria in one of the peninsula’s most popular resorts.

According to State Bureau of Statistics, in the first eight months of this year Croatian camps recorded 2.2 million tourists and 14.9 million overnight stays, which was an increase of 4.3 percent in arrivals and 3.2 percent in overnight stays compared to 2014. The latest data was presented recently at the Congress of Camping Industry in Biograd. Croatia currently has 278 camps, which account for about 23.1 percent of the total Croatian tourist accommodation facilities. The average stay of tourists in Croatian camps this season was 6.7 days, reports Glas Istre on November 16, 2015.

“This season was another in a series of good seasons for Croatian camps; we might even say it was a record season. There was an increase in the number of overnight stays of three percent and an increase in number of arrivals of four percent. Most importantly, of our five major markets, four are on the rise. Number of German tourists has increased by 2.5 percent, Slovenian by five percent, Austrian by three percent and Italian by as much as 4.5 percent. Unfortunately, we have recorded a certain decline in the number of tourists from the Netherlands, but it was by only one percent”, said Adriano Palman, director of the Croatian Camping Union.

“Accordingly, by the end of the year we expect some 17 million overnight stays in the camps, which is only about 200,000 overnights less than the best results in our camps during the last ‘golden age’ of our tourism in 1985 and 1986, when we had about 17.2 million overnight stays in the camps, but with significantly greater capacities in camps than we have today”, Palman said.

“The investment process has commenced and for the next year a vast majority of our camps has plans to raise the quality of its services. For example, Valamar has announced significant investments in water parks and swimming pool complexes, beaches, toilet and other facilities in a number of its camps. Valkanela has announced a new swimming pool complex and many other significant investments. Also, a brand new camp will be opened in Rovinj – Camp Val Saline”, Palman concluded.
