Some fascinating statistics released by the Central Dalmatian Tourist Board on June 17, 2016, show some revealing trends in the region’s tourism, including the rise of the Norwegians to match the decline of the Italians, and the growing importance of Split.

These are good times for tourism in Central Dalmatia, and as the beaches fill up one more, another bumper season is guaranteed.

Within those good news numbers, however, there have been some interesting changes, both in the changing popularity of destinations and also the source tourist countries.

The Central Dalmatia Tourist Board this morning released some excellent data on tourism arrivals and overnight stays by country and preferred destination, from 2006-2015, and they make very interesting reading.

No need for much comment from me – eight of the biggest markets, and their preferred destinations. The decline of the Italian market is matched by the rise of the Polish, and Norway continues to be a growing area. The rise of Split and the importance of the Makarska Riviera are clear to see, and there are little snippets of personal interest, such as my home town of Jelsa was the favoured spot for Slovenians in 2006, just as it is today.
