August the 23rd, 2024 – There have been 7% more cruise ships in Croatia than there were back in 2023 so far, with a drop seen only in June.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, foreign cruise ships in the Croatian Adriatic made 244 round trips in the first half of 2024, which represents 7% more than in the same period last year. They transported about 350 thousand passengers, or 24% more, data from the CBS shows.
Back in June this year, foreign cruise ships in Croatia had made one hundred round trips on the Adriatic Sea, which is 2% less than in June 2023. That month was the only decrease, with all other months from the beginning of 2024 seeing the number of these trips increase slightly.
even when the number of cruise ships in croatia decreased, passenger numbers were higher
However, even in June, with fewer round trips actually realised by cruise ships in Croatia, a greater increase in passengers was registered on them. The number of passengers aboard stood at 142.6 thousand, representative of 18.6% more than in June last year.
As was the case during the first six months of this year, in June, the most foreign cruise ships in Croatia sailed under the flags of the Bahamas and Malta. Those ship were also carrying the most passengers, about 90 thousand in June alone, and about 175 thousand over the entire duration of the first six months of the year.
dubrovnik has (unsurprisingly) welcomed the most floating giants so far
There were 57 foreign cruise ships that made cruises on the Adriatic Sea in the first six months of 2024, representative of just more than at the same time last year. In total, they realised 244 cruises, which is 7% more than the same time last year. 350.5 thousand passengers arrived on these ships, which is 67.7 thousand passengers or 24% more than in the first six months of 2023. The statistics also show that cruise ships in Croatia stayed for a slightly shorter time than last year – 524 days in total, which is 2.2% less than 2023.
Most of the round trips were made down south in Dubrovnik-Neretva County, and then in central Dalmatia in Split-Dalmatia County, and among the ports themselves, the Port of Dubrovnik unsurprisingly saw the most visits of all.
