A new option for fine dining on the island.
The De Canavellis restaurant in Korčula will open its doors for the first time this evening. This is a long-awaited fine dining project that will bring the gastronomy offer on the island to a new level. Slowly but surely, Korčula is becoming the capital of Croatian gastronomy, reports Korčula Online on June 24, 2018.
The chef is Matija Bogdan, one of the most prominent stars of Croatian gastronomy, who will present in Korčula all the experience he gained in the legendary The Ledbury in London.
The menu is based on the fresh fish from the Adriatic Sea and equally fresh ingredients, which Matija and his team buy daily from local producers.
The ambience of the ancient Korčula palace of the Kanavelić family is inspirational and unique by itself, while the carefully selected pieces of furniture have further refined the venue. Petar Kanavelić was a Croatian poet, author, one of the greatest Croatian writers of the 17th century. He was the last male offspring of an old, very rich and highly distinguished Korčula family and was active in the society (as a teacher, attorney, diplomat).
In front of the restaurant is a bar area, offering a unique view of the western waterfront and one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world. The wine list and the selection of cocktails and drinks are impressive.
Interestingly, as a time when many young people are unfortunately leaving the country, the manager of the restaurant, Carmen Tomašić, a young Croatian Australian with an impressive list of achievements in gastronomy, has decided to return to Croatia.
