Bodypainting & Fashion Festivals: Another Weekend on Diverse Hvar

Paul Bradbury

June 16, 2023 – More innovative magic as the diverse Hvar tourism season continues with weekend with local fashion and international bodypainting stars.

When I spontaneously bought a house on Hvar back in 2002, I had no idea what treasures this stunning island possessed. An island of beauty, for sure, but the level of culture, tradition and heritage consistently left me speechless.

As did the diversity.

Take the Pakleni Islands in front of Hvar Town, for example. They all seem the same from that spectacular view from the fortress. And yet, explore a little deeper, and you will find one of the Adriatic’s premier night spots, CNN’s top naturist beach in the world, one of only three arboretums in the whole country, as well as an art gallery and lively cultural scene.

A scene which is about to embrace a bright and colorful new arrival this weekend, as the diverse Hvar tourist programme continues. There is something fresh about this year’s programme in Hvar Town, whose most impressive addition is the ‘Made in Croatia’ exhibition in the Arsenal.

Bodypainting Weekend

This weekend highlights two smaller but excellent events, celebrating the art of the present with international artists and a throwback to the rich Hvar fashion tradition of the past with local fashion designers.

And those diverse Pakleni Islands will be the scene of yet more vibrancy as the first international bodypainting weekend will take place and be based at Laganini on Palmizana.

In cooperation with the founder of one of the biggest bodypainting festivals Alex Barendregt this two-day program aims to provide the ultimate experience with internationally recognized body art artists who will create artistic “live” 3D creations. Thematically focused underwater world and summer, this event aims to popularise body art and lay the groundwork for a competition-type event. The event would contribute to the diversity of content and the enrichment of both artistic and tourist offers.

Top artists from Austria, Germany, USA, Italy and South Korea will participate in the first edition of the Hvar bodypainting event. The main organiser of Esthetique by Lorena in cooperation, in cooperation with the Hvar Tourist Board. You can get an idea of the quality of the international bodypainters by checking out some of their profiles below:

Ernst Wieser, Austria
Silke Kirchhoff, Germany
Katrin Rausch, Germany
Filippo Ioco, USA-Italy
Piera Di Maio, Italy
Moona Jin, South Korea

On the first day, the program begins with the relaxed atmosphere of the Laganini bar, where models will be photographed by the beautiful turquoise sea during the day. For those who will not be able to follow the transformation of the model and the creation of this magic, the continuation of the program with a photo session will be at the Gariful G spot and in the retreat house “Kod Kapetana” in Veli Grablje.

The second day of the event will take place in the paradise garden of Meneghello, again on Palmižana, and with exceptional jewelry by designer Tanja Ćurin. In this idyllic setting, art will merge with nature, creating “living canvases” in this already unique place. The continuation of the event was organized on one of the most beautiful terraces in Hvar, the terrace of the Marina Riva hotel on Hvar’s waterfront. If you wish, face painting for the public will be organized in Seven and after midnight at Carpe Diem.

An exceptional weekend, then, for all bodypainting enthusiasts. If, however, you prefer wearing stylish clothes on your body, rather than paint, Hvar is also the place to be this week, as local fashion designer Toni Rico celebrates 20 years of his fashion brand a the FOR Fashion Event.

Hvar the fashion island

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Hvar brand “Toni Rico”, a fashion event for the city of Hvar, which aims to put the sunniest city back on the fashion map of the world.

Called “For fashion”, this fashion project connects fashion and Hvar, because Hvar has always been in fashion and fashion has always been present in Hvar. The name of the manifestation “FOR fashion” is a play on words and has a double meaning: For as Hvar’s, local, name for the city of Hvar, and For as the English word “for”.

Under the slogan “For fashionable city”, the mission of this year’s event is to position Hvar as a fashion center, just as it was in the seventies of the last century when the famous fashion event “Modefest” took place.

At that time, along with local fashion forces, Hvar hosted the leading names of the world fashion scene such as: Paco Rabanne, Nino Cerutti, Guy Laroche, Valentino, Roberto di Camerino, Renato Balestre and Missoni.
“Modefest” was the main summer event and became the fashion event with the longest tradition in the Mediterranean. And we believe that with the launch of the new fashion project “For Fashion”, Hvar will once again emphasize its fashion identity and highlight the contours of the fashion environment, and in the upcoming editions will connect with the global fashion scene.

This season’s fashion event will take place on June 17. at 9:30 p.m. in front of Lodja in Hvar with the performance of renowned Croatian fashion designers; Luka Grubišić (LUKA), Ana Kujundžić, Marina Šimić Obradović (MARINA DESIGN) and Tone Ricot from Hvar.

As a musical treat, a young musician with exceptional vocal abilities, Marko Bošnjak, will perform.

For the purposes of the fashion campaign, the famous Croatian actors Filip Vidović and Ivan Čuić found themselves in front of the lens of photographer Đanij Ivančević, who replaced the boards that mean life by filming in attractive locations in the town of Hvar and in the botanical garden of the Meneghello family in Palmižana.

They took on the role of models wearing pieces from the new collection “Rebel with a reason”, brand Toni Rico, and were joined by Hvar model Bepo Poparić.

The event is in cooperation and with the support of the Tourist Board of the City of Hvar, the City of Hvar, Sunčani Hvar and other sponsors.

Diverse Hvar then. Some come for the beaches, some for the food and wine, the culture, the traditions, or the nightlife. Whatever your reasons, you will find your slice of Paradise on this exceptionally rich island on so many levels.
