Dubrovnik: No More Walking the Streets in Swimwear

Lauren Simmonds

A dress code to bear in mind if ou are visiting Dubrovnik this summer.

I know, it gets hot in summer. It gets very hot. It gets even hotter when within the city walls which miraculously turn into a gigantic, fully functioning pizza oven during the summer months. But now you’ll have to suffer heat exhaustion conservatively.

The City of Dubrovnik introduced a new by-law this year which comes into effect this summer. Tourists who are topless or wearing swimwear in the Old City will face monetary fines of up to £250 (approx 2300hrk/320euro). Signs will be placed at three entrances into the Old City (Pile, Ploče and Buža) – and anybody ignoring their fair warning will risk being fined.

There have been several embarrassing, funny and sometimes downright offensive clothing (or lack of) incidents over the past few years, more-so in the past two seasons and now local authorities have taken it upon themselves to introduce the law by-law and on the spot fines.

Stradun will have a dress code this summer, if you’re visiting us in this humble little town during the season, make sure your swimwear knows its place.
