Following multiple years of negotiations and planning, Platak is finally about to get a makeover
Platak is widely known as a ski resort located an hour drive north from Rijeka. A unique ski resort at that, as it stands as one of few places where you can ski and see the coastline and the Kvarner gulf at the same time.
The range of activities available to visitors goes far beyond skiing, though. Platak represents a destination with a versatile offer that provides plenty of opportunities to have fun all year round – and do something good for your health along the way. It’s equipped with two bowling grounds, multiple sports fields, a playground for children and the first Disc golf field opened in Croatia. Hiking trails and cycling routes curving through stunning natural scenery make for a perfect way to get some fresh air and recharge your batteries; once you’re done with recreation and games, you can rent one of the ten barbecue stations to make up for all those calories lost, and have a good time with your family and friends.
Platak is about to become an even more attractive destination thanks to a renovation project that is currently underway. The Master Plan for the Sports Centre Platak was unanimously adopted at the latest session of the Municipality of Čavle, allowing for the large-scale project to finally get into gear, reports Novi list on October 27, 2017.
Platak is about to get connected with Grobničko polje (a karst plain in Grobnik area) with a new cableway. The project also entails renovation of a camp with 300 beds, along with multiple small hotels with a total capacity of 550 beds. Existing objects will be reconstructed, especially mountaineers’ lodges; new objects that are getting built include a centre for visitors and a centre for scouts, an adrenaline park, a new sports zone, and a picnic zone.
“The regional centre for sports, recreation and tourism Platak (RSRTC) is one of the strategic projects of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, as well as an estate of national importance. As part of the development project for RSRTC Platak, we are monitoring and carrying out its development with a goal of building a contemporary centre for sports and recreation, as well as transforming it into a desirable destination for sports, recreation and tourism”, said the Mayor of Čavle Municipality Ivana Cvitan Polić.
Simply put, all that formal talk means we’re headed for a new era of Platak, with our favourite weekend destination broadening the scope of available activities and accommodation facilities, becoming one of the best equipped excursion sites in Croatia. A wonderful thing to look forward to, don’t you agree?
