Financial Times Discovers the Gourmet Delights of Korcula

Another boost for the Korculan gourmet scene on September 25, 2018, as The Financial Times ‘How to Spend It’ gets stuck into some Lesic Dimitri fine dining, ably accompanied by a glass or two of Posip and Grk.

The dining scene in Dalmatia has come a long way since I first arrived way back in 2002, thanks largely to various private gourmet pioneers who were bold enough to bring in new ideas and flavours to the market. The transformation in dining options has been spectacular, and Dalmatian cuisine is rightly enjoying a higher profile on the global stage. 

Nowhere is this perhaps truer than in Korcula Town, whose exquisite and compact old town, the birthplace of Marco Polo, has raised its gourmet game considerably in the last decade. Leading the charge is Lesic Dimitri Palace, arguably the top boutique hotel in the country, with a kitchen to more than match the luxury of the hotel itself. The Michelin Guide has taken note, and Lesic Dimitri, along with Konoba Mate in Pupnat, now finds itself recommended by the iconic gourmet guide. 

And another recent convert to Lesic Dimitri and the overall charms of Korcula is Financial Times foodie writer Bill Knott, whose latest column in the FT’s How to Spend It feature is focused on a gorgeous Dalmatian island which was this year voted the Tourism Champion of all Croatia by the Vecernji List Tourism Patrol:

“Korcula has a thoroughly civilised, laidback, grown-up aura about it and – in terms of food and drink – punches well above its weight: music to my ears, even without the strains of a string quartet in the background.”
