For The First Time Ever: Croatia Airlines Welcomes Its 2 Millionth Passenger in a Year

Total Croatia News

This is the first time that the airline has over two million passengers in a year since 1991 when it was founded.

Nensi Kranjčević from Pula is the two millionth passenger of the Croatian national air carrier Croatia Airlines this year. The jubilee passenger travelled yesterday on a regularly scheduled international flight from Copenhagen to Zagreb. This is the first time that the company had more than two million passengers in a year since 1991 when the airline was founded, reports Večernji List on December 6, 2017.

The record was marked by a small ceremony at the Zagreb Airport, held after the aircraft landed. Director of sales and marketing of Croatia Airlines Boris Kolka presented the two-millionth passenger with two business class tickets for one of the international services of Croatia Airlines. The event was also supported by the Zagreb International Airport, which presented a cake and cocktails for the jubilee passenger and all participants of the ceremony.

This year, Croatia Airlines has recorded a ten percent increase in passenger traffic. International traffic has 11 percent more passengers than in 2016, while there are seven percent more passengers on domestic services.

The growth of passenger traffic is partly the result of the introduction of four new seasonal services in May this year – from Zagreb to Stockholm, Oslo, Helsinki and Bucharest. During this year’s tourist season, the company continued its seasonal services to Lisbon, Milan, Prague and Sankt-Peterburg, which were introduced in 2016. Also, due to the high interest of passengers, seasonal services to Barcelona and Lisbon have been extended to the winter 2017/2018 flight schedule, which is the first time that the company is flying to these cities outside of the tourist season.

Due to favourable travel trends, the company carried its millionth passenger this year in early July, which was the earliest in the company’s history. In 2017, a total of more than 2,100,000 passengers are expected to use the services of the Croatian national airline, which will be a record number of passengers.

The fleet of Croatia Airlines consists of twelve aircraft: four Airbus 319 (144 seats), two Airbus 320 (174 seats) and six Dash 8-Q400 turboprop aircraft (76 seats). During this year’s tourist season, the company also chartered two CRJ 1000 aircraft with 100 seats.
