Hedonistic Hvar: From Morning Coffee at BB Club to Dinner Under the Stars at San Marco

July 13, 2025 – The international accolades for Croatia’s premier island continue to pour in. So how should you spend a day on Hedonistic Hvar?

The column inches are turning into column feet. Conde Nast Readers are once more shortlisting Hvar, to be followed by Wanderlust, and then Travel + Leisure naming it one of the most beautiful islands in the world.

Again.

And it really is. My home for 13 wonderful years, it is an island of such exquisite beauty, culture and tradition, I feel privileged to have spent 20 per cent of my life there.

One of the many advantages that Hvar offers is a very strong hotel group in Hvar Town, a group which offers a range of excellent accommodation, including the first five-star heritage hotel, Palace Elisabeth, and a range of quality restaurants which are performing far above normal hotel restaurants in the TripAdvisor ratings.

And if you are looking to take in the unique vibe of Hvar from the comfort of a cocktail and fine meal or two, the BB Hvar and San Marco combination offer a lot more than food and drink.

In many ways, BB Club is the heartbeat of Hvar Town in my opinion. Located in the fashionable Hotel Riva Marina, right in the middle of one of Europe’s top waterfronts, BB Club is the ultimate people and yacht-watching spot on the island.

Open to non-residents, BB Club is much more than just a lounge bar, it is one of the best places to soak up the daytime atmosphere, with its relaxed luxury vibe and chance to chill out with cocktails and a view of those infamous megayachts. It is quite a living room.

For many, BB Club is a great place to start the day with morning coffee, but for me as a Brit living here for over 20 years, I have certain yearnings from life back home. And having travelled all over Croatia, I can confirm that there is no better English breakfast on the Croatian coast than that at BB Hvar, especially if you throw in a Bloody Mary. A truly exceptional and chilled start to the day. While sitting at BB Club, I watch the tourists waiting for the catamaran in the sun, standing in line. Why not spend that last hour on this magical island chilling with a farewell cocktail in the BB Club easy chairs, reflecting on the holiday of a lifetime?

And for fine dining? Why not go back to where it all began – the birthplace of organised tourism in Europe, way back in 1868. A terrace so special that it overlooks the largest square in all Dalmatia, Croatia’s most exclusive waterfront AND the oldest public theatre in all of Europe. And that is before we have mentioned the food.

San Marco is one of Hvar’s premier spots, a top wedding and event location with its prime location, as well as the exclusive restaurant of Hvar’s most exclusive hotel, the Palace Elisabeth, hvar heritage hotel, named after Empress Sisi, the patron for the original hotel built on the same spot in the nineteenth century.

And let’s not mention the sunset…

As one would expect with such a location, San Marco offers some of the best fine dining on Hvar, offering fresh Mediterranean flavours, island ingredients, and a one-of-a-kind sunset experience. Sea view, premium service, luxury location, innovative Mediterranean cuisine, romantic sunsets, and an exclusive wine list – why would you dine anywhere else. A place dripping in Dalmatian history, but where Dalmatia is reimagined on a plate with a modern twist on traditional Mediterranean ingredients.

Hedonistic Hvar, a place that combines authenticity, aesthetics, and hedonism. And there is much more to discover on the Suncani Hvar website.
