March 25, 2024 – It has been a mild but long winter, but nothing beats the tourist season, which will soon start on Hvar, as Suncani Hvar opens its doors with a new-look Hotel Amfora.
Easter is my very favourite time on Hvar. Unlike my current home of Zagreb, which has four distinct seasons, it struck me during my 13 years on Hvar that there were only two – the season and the off season.
And Easter is a time when the island moves between the two seasons. The days are brighter with the clock change, the weather warmer, and businesses slowly start to open for the long season until November. It is a family time as loved ones return from Zagreb and elsewhere on the mainland to celebrate Easter, one of the most important times of the year in the Croatian calendar.
The religious processions, the joy at family reunifications, it is a wonderful time to visit away from the crowds, and I look forward to being reunited with my adopted isle. I love it.
A sign that the season is beginning can be detected by the movements of the biggest tourism industry on the island, Hvar Town, owner of most of the hotels in Hvar.
And Good Friday will see 4-star Hotel Adriana open its doors for the season, the first of the hotels to open. Non-residents are welcome to what I believe is the finest hotel breakfast on the Adriatic, especially when you combine it with the lazy people-watching waterfront view across Hvar’s iconic harbour.
Suncani Hvar Hotels are under new ownership this year, and there is no slowing down in the revovation plans. The latest beneficiary is Hotel Amfora, the largest of the hotels, and popular as a romantic getaway for couples as well as families with its cascading pools.
In 2024, the well anticipated revamp of Amfora’s West Wing is underway. This will include a re-do of its main hallway leading to the wing as well as its 83 units. Carefully selected works of arts are added to complement the décor and the new grey cool-color work. This will additionally enhance guest experience and overall comfort. Complete with new selected furnishings, this elegant revamp goes in complete accordance to the ever- evolving guest expectations. 2024 promises to be another dynamic season for Croatia’s premier island, with the excellent late-season addition of the Spartan World Championships (as previously reported on TCN), when some 10,000 guests are expected on the island for the 4-day event.
