March 18, 2018 – It is the place where organised tourism in Europe began 150 years ago.
One of my favourite Hvar Facebook pages is the excellent Old Postcards and Photographs of Hvar Town. A very lively page with a seemingly never-ending source of excellent material, I enjoyed this timely upload from Prosper Maricic recently in this, the 150th year of organised tourism in Europe, born on Hvar.
Hvar tourism as it once was, open all year, with the fine wines of Hvar and Vis among the main offer, where today many local restaurants prefer to concentrate on an international or mainland Croatian wine selection. And 12-month tourism is not something that happens these days.
The 150-year celebrations are gathering pace, and the Hvar Tourist Board has finally published a list of events for the 150 celebrations (and in English too! – there is progress), which you can find below.
