Lastovo Island Gets New Information Points as Part of EU Natura 2000 Project

Total Croatia News

Lastovo Island Nature Park is introducing two info-points for ticket control and providing visitors with information, reports Dubrovnik Portal.

The cubic modules will be installed at two locations, Ubli and Zaklopatica, where visitors will be able to get information on the island and buy souvenirs and tickets for the nature park. The total worth of the new units is 648.250 kuna, and they are locally manufactured by the Siže Kupres d.o.o. company from Samobor.

Implementation of an organised system of interpretative points at strategically positioned locations on the island has multiple advantages, one of them being the ability to better present various themed segments of the nature park, and thus promote its unique natural heritage. Installing new info units will also result in a decrease of unfavourable effects that tourist activities have on nature and the environment.

National parks and nature parks in Croatia take special care to implement renewable energy sources and use eco materials in furnishing their public spaces to achieve the highest level of eco standards. Assistant Minister for Nature Protection Igor Kreitmeyer remarked the info stands are multifunctional and energetically self-sufficient, as they are equipped with solar panels and mini wind power systems. The funds for their construction were procured as part of the EU Natura 2000 Integration Project, concieved by the Ministry of Environment and Energy in 2011 and aiming to provide support to national parks, nature parks and public institutions in managing protected natural resources.
