Legends of Korčula: The Battle of Giča

July 3, 2018 – The last in our 5-part series looking at the legends of Korčula by video – the Battle of Giča.

The Turks entered Blato and enslaved women and children. The men of Blato formed Kumpanjija, a national army; they defeated the Turks on Giča and set their people free.

It is this army’s tradition that developed a knight’s dance called Kumpanjija, which is preserved today by the Knight’s Association Kumpanjija.
