September 24, 2023 – An upgrade for eastern Croatia, as Osijek Airport to be upgraded in 11.3 million euro agreement.

More good news on travel infrastructure in Slavonia. As Osijek train station unveiled its new look this week after a facelift taking it back to its appearance 125 years ago (read about it here), Osijek Airport is set for an upgrade of its own.

Compared to the new terminals in Split, Zagreb and Dubrovnik in recent years, the investment will be a lot more modest at 11.3 million euro, according to a post on the airport’s Facebook post:

Yesterday, an agreement for the construction of a new passenger terminal worth 11.3 million euros was signed at Osijek Airport.

Along with Airport Director Ivan Kos, the signing of the agreement was attended by the Mayor of Osijek, Ivan Radić, and the Prefect of Osijek-Baranja County, Ivan Anušić.

“Renovation will be not only visual, but also energy and technical,” said Ivan Kos, director of Osijek Airport.
We are very much looking forward to the upcoming changes.

Aviation portal ExYuAviation had a little more detail:

The airport and contractors Projektgradnja plus, Osijek-Koteks and Trames signed an agreement on Thursday to overhaul the facility, with construction work scheduled for completion within fourteen months. The scope of the project includes the refurbishment of the terminal’s interior and exterior, as well as the construction of an outside canopy. The 2.800-square-metre building will be adapted to Schengen Area standards. “Osijek Airport can be one of the catalysts for economic development in eastern Croatia, and this project is a good indicator of moving in that direction”, Osijek Airport’s General Manager, Ivan Kos, said.

Osijek has been underutilized for years and currently operates just two international flights – Ryanair to London Stansted, as well as a winter service to Munich with Croatia Airlines. The heavily subsidised Public Service Obligation domestic flights operated by Trade Air are the only other commercial flights at the moment.
