The luxury holiday destination in Istria will soon host the third edition of the glamorous sports event
Maistra Group is again proving that Croatian destinations have enourmous potential to attract high-profile visitors. One of the key players in Croatia’s tourism industry, Maistra is organising an attractive manifestation in Rovinj for the third year in a row: Rovinj Beach Polo Cup, a sports tournament that will take place on Porton Biondi beach from June 8 to 10.
This year, six international teams will compete in the Beach Polo Cup, composed of players of 11 different nationalities. The teams are bringing along over 60 Argentine horses that will make an appearance in a ceremonial parade from the polo arena to the city centre. The third edition of the spectacular tournament will also feature four female polo players, reports Glas Istre on March 23, 2018.
Rovinj Beach Polo Cup is one of the few manifestations of its kind when it comes to the so-called royal sport. The game is played on the beach instead of a regular polo field; as the sandy terrain slows down the tempo of the game and the audience is sat closer to the field than usual, the event truly makes for a unique experience for the viewers.
Uwe Zimmermann, president of the Rovinj Beach Polo Cup Organisational Committee, stated they are extremely honoured that Rovinj will again become a prominent centre of cultural and sport life for three days. He also said visitors can look forward to outstanding entertainment and announced some new additions to the tournament: a new arena that will host matches during daytime and evening hours. The auditorium has been expanded and the arena renovated, making for an even more attractive venue overlooking the iconic panorama of the Old Town Rovinj. Guests will also have the option of watching the matches from a three-tier VIP lounge.
Looking to the entertainment programme: Rovinj will host the popular English singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor, known for hits such as Murder on the Dance Floor, If This Ain’t Love and I Won’t Change You. The leading star will perform in the glamorous polo arena on June 9 as the first confirmed act of the Rovinj Summer Music Festival.
The best restaurants in Rovinj are joining the overall programme, having announced special menus inspired by the polo tournament.
The manifestation is known to attract numerous public persons from Croatia and abroad, improving the quality of the tourist offer and providing a local destination with a desirable dose of glitz and glamour. It also generates an increase in the number of overnight stays in the pre-season in accommodation facilities of the highest categories – 4 and 5 star hotels in Rovinj.
