Private yacht tours are not as difficult to organise or out of reach as most imagine, and Sail Croatia help make it even easier.
Booking a private yacht tour, sounds like ‘lifestyles of the rich and the famous’ right? Well, yes and no. Since finding myself in the yachting world in Croatia, I have made many discoveries, one of which is that booking your own yacht for a week is nowhere near as expensive as I would have thought. I am not talking about a super yacht mind you…
Pelorus Mega Yacht – the 11th Largest Yacht in the World, enjoying the Adriatic
Just a comfortable yacht for you and a few friends to sail the Adriatic on.
When I first came to Croatia, I encountered Sail Croatia for the first time and it was in the realm of ‘party boats’; so, I assumed this was their brand. Turns out they offer a lot more.
Sail Croatia has been operating since 2003, which makes them one of the leading (and lasting) names in the yachting industry here in Croatia. Sail Croatia offer different products – Under 35 Yacht Tour: party tour for 18 – 35-year-olds, Bareboat Charters: gives clients the ability to skipper their own yacht and create their own itinerary, Green Sail: A unique sustainable sailing project (read more here) and their Private Yacht Tours: which includes skipper and flexible itinerary.
Since they have been in the industry for so long, they have spent years growing a portfolio and reputation of only working with the best boats and professional crew. They pride themselves on working with and supporting locals – hiring local skippers and even tour guides (where most companies use international guides). Having a policy of working with locals benefits the community, but it also benefits the clients – as they are more likely to get a knowledgeable and authentic experience.
How does it work?
There are two different yacht options available; standard and premium packages, which start at €2,800 and €4,500 respectively. You book the yacht and dates you want and your hassle-free holiday will be taken care of!
Who does it suit?
Sail Croatia’s yachts typically hold 6 – 8 people, so it would suit a group of friends, couples or even a family. I know so many groups of friends who have travelled to Croatia together and booked on a large boat tour – but honestly, I can’t think of anything better than having some of my best friends on our own yacht together. Actually, I would love to do the same with my family!
Hidden Costs?
The costs I stated include a local skipper, cleaning, airport transfers, damage insurance, fuel and local tax. So, it doesn’t include food, drinks or any extra excursions. But if you break it down – it is from between €350 or €560 (starting standard or premium prices for 8 persons). That is from €50 or €80 per person, per day. Good luck finding accommodation on all of the islands for that price during the season. Plus, there is a kitchenette onboard, so shopping and cooking together is much cheaper than dining out every day.
Key Benefits of a Private Yacht Tour?
I am not sure I need to spell it out, but just in case…
- Your own private yacht (the hint is in the name), no sharing with strangers – you can have your own friends or family around you and really enjoy a holiday together.
- Your itinerary: you can set the itinerary, your tour, your way. Hit up the major attractions, or take it easy and enjoy more nature and exploring, it is entirely up to you.
- Nature: you don’t need to dock in every destination, you can find a small bay, anchor, swim – away from the crowds.
- Experienced Skipper: your Private Yacht Tour includes a local Skipper, so you can be sure he will know the region like the back of his hand, including the many hidden gems along the coast.
- Clean and Comfortable: Sail Croatia only works with the best boats, so you can rest assured you will have a clean, comfortable space for the week
So, what are you waiting for? Get some friends together and book your own Private Yacht Tour, I guarantee it’ll be a summer you never forget, like – “Hey, remember that time we booked our own yacht and sailed the Adriatic?” Yip, definitely not going to regret that one.
