May 7, 2018 – Ever tried creating a work of art using only sand and water?
We recently reported about an interesting initiative taking place on the island of Rab these days; a free crash course in scuba diving, organised as part of the celebration of Rab City Day. News of another attractive event come our way from Rab, this time from the town of Lopar: Sand Scuplture Festival!
The unique festival is taking place for the seventh year in a row, organised by Lopar Tourist Board. The so-called Paradise beach (Rajska plaža) will once again host the entertaining manifestation, involving a number of artists who will be creating wonders using only golden sand and water.
One of Lopar’s recognisable traits that make it stand out among other attractive tourist destinations are its sand beaches, no less than 22 of them spanning along the shore. That said, sand is in a way seen as a souvenir specific to Lopar, and the Sand Sculpture Festival the best possible method of its promotion.
Participants will build original, imaginative (and temporary) works of art using sand and water, filling up Lopar’s beaches with bewildering creations. Apart from this main activity, the festival will also feature a photo contest with Lopar sand set as the main theme.
In case you’re planning a visit to Rab, mark June 11 – 16 on your calendar. While you’re at it, why not try your hand in sand sculpting? Who knows, you might come up with an award-winning piece – but what’s most important is to enjoy the process and have fun as you’re putting your creativity to the test. If you want to participate, you can apply by sending an email to [email protected].
