October 13, 2018 – It is one of the oldest towns in Croatia, but how was life in Stari Grad on Hvar 50 years ago?

It is more than 2,400 years since the Ancient Greeks sailed into the deep bay of Stari Grad on Hvar. They founded the first settlement, Pharos, named after the Greek island of their origin – Paros. Over the centuries, Stari Grad, as Pharos became known, has enjoyed a rich history with numerous foreign influences, but it has always retained its stone charm.

Life back in the 1960s is captured in the latest video of our look at the Mediterranean as It Once Was through various online videos. The big winery in Stari Grad was in full flow, and the ferry still came right into the harbour, not to today’s harbour 1km out of town.
