Work on New Beach in Opatija Commences

Opatija is finally turning into a modern holiday destination

Opatija, one of Croatia’s oldest tourist destinations, is changing. After last year’s opening of Lido, upscale public beach, construction works have begun on another public bathing location – near the city harbor. As reported by HRT (Croatian Radio Television) on March 10, 2016, this depleted and abandoned part of the city will not only offer a new pier for tourist boats, but it will also have a brand new beach worth 3.5 million kuna.

The Royal Beach, a new attraction in Opatija which will open this summer, will offer large sunbathing areas right by the sea, swimming pools for children and a whole range of auxiliary services. The entire project will be constructed from wood, stone, and other natural materials while special accent will be placed on horticulture and landscaping.

Royal Beach will be an exclusive location with entertainment programs both during the day and night and it will also include its own wellness areas and various recreational activities. Of course, special attention was paid to gastronomy so you will be able to order top local dishes and enjoy them right there and then on your sun bed while still in your swimsuit.

Considering that “Sun and sea” tourism was suffering for years because the city was lacking well-maintained beaches, it is great to see so many new developments in this particular segment. All new projects are the result of cooperation between the city officials and hotel groups, and judging by the speed at which these projects are becoming a reality, we can expect many great new things in Opatija in the future.
