Popular news portal The Times has recently published a list of 30 affordable European cities great for a weekend getaway in autumn.
Many travel magazines, news portals and websites have already written about Croatia and its beautiful coastline and islands and have included many Croatian destinations in their lists of the most beautiful islands, beaches, towns, you name it.
Recently, popular news portal The Times.co.uk has listed 30 cheap alternatives to popular and pricey European cities such as Paris and Rome and included two Croatian cities – Pula and Zadar – as great European city break destinations.
Of all the destinations presented, the first listed is the city of Zadar, which is praised as a perfect spot for an autumn break and arguably the country’s hippest city: “Dubrovnik teems at this time of year, but you can miss the mêlée by heading north to the coastal city of Zadar — the historic old town, Roman ruins and medieval churches make it the perfect spot for an autumn break. It’s also arguably Croatia’s hippest city, with cosmopolitan cafés and bistros. Watch the sunset from the waterfront, where a huge solar-powered outdoor dancefloor flashes with bright patterns at night.”

Another city in Croatia the portal has included (third) in their list is the city of Pula, which they propose as a great and cheap alternative to Rome, especially for anyone wanting to see the Colosseum.
“If you’ve queued for a peek inside the Colosseum in Rome you’ll know how long and painful the wait can be. Go to Pula and for £6 you can amble around the remarkably well-preserved amphitheatre with just a smattering of other tourists. Make time to visit the central market, while for wow factor take a day trip to Venice.

Under each destination info, the portal also included a suggestion for a cheap flight (departing from the UK) and cheap accommodation (The Boutique Hostel Forum in Zadar and Hotel Galija in Pula).
