And you thought Croatian tourism was on the coast…
Zagreb has recently welcomed its millionth tourist this year, which has never happened before in the history of the city. The lucky visitor was Clare Morrison from Great Britain who visited Zagreb for the Advent festivities, reports Poslovni.hr on December 21, 2015.
Morrison arrived in Zagreb on Saturday with her sister and will stay in the city until Tuesday. She will stay at the Sheraton Hotel, where on Monday she received a special gift as the millionth tourist. The gift was presented by Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić, general manager of HUP Zagreb Anđelko Leko, general manager of the Croatian National Tourist Board Ratomir Ivičić and Tourism Minister Darko Lorencin.
She was also greeted by director of the Zagreb Tourist Board Martina Bienenfeld, who added that she was happy that during the same month Zagreb passed a landmark number of tourist arrivals and won the award for the best Advent event in Europe. “During the first two weeks of this year’s Advent in Zagreb, we have exceeded the total number of tourists in December last year. We already have 20 percent more tourists than last year and I believe that we will have even better results by the end of this year”, Bienenfeld said.
Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić said that he was extremely pleased that everyone in the city is working jointly to achieve best possible tourist results, which is precisely what makes them possible, while Tourism Minister Darko Lorencin stressed that Zagreb is full of various interesting events and is a good example of how to organize activities and develop a tourist destination to achieve good results.
Clare Morrison told reporters that she had never been to Croatia before, and that in Zagreb she was most impressed with the atmosphere on the streets, good food and the possibility of singing and dancing on the main city squares.
