April the 6th, 2026 – Zagreb is set to introduce a “brown zone” for the first time, with more parking space losses on the cards.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, next week, a special parking zone called a “brown zone” will be introduced in Zagreb for the first time. The new area is Zone II, in Block 13, that is, in Tratinska Street in the heart of Trešnjevka. In addition to the introduction of the new zone, residents will lose approximately 60 parking spaces.

“Over the period from 11. 4. 2026 to 11. 9. 2026, Tratinska will become a designated as a special parking block, marked in brown (the area where parking is prohibited, except for persons who have a permanent residence or place of residence, headquarters, or use business premises in Tratinska, with a valid preferential parking ticket for BLOCK 13) as part of ZONE II. BLOCK 13,” they stated from the city.

They explained from the City of Zagreb that they resorted to this previously unused method due to the reconstruction of water supply pipelines and the reconstruction of Ulica grada Vukovara on the section from Ozaljska ulica to Ulica Florijana Andrašec, Jutarnji list reports. Therefore, they need to establish special traffic regulations.

“Given that extensive construction works will be carried out in the period from April to September, during which, depending on the phase, the movement of motor vehicles will be suspended, it’s become necessary to provide detours for all vehicles that normally travel along the aforementioned section of Ulica grada Vukovara,” it was explained.

It continues that the Temporary Regulation Study envisages the redirection of traffic in the west direction along the following streets: Ulica grada Vukovara – Ulica Florijana Andrašec – Tratinska ulica – Ozaljska ulica. In order to ensure two traffic lanes in the west direction on Tratinska, it will be necessary to temporarily eliminate a significant number of parking spaces on the roadway.

The establishment of a no-parking area, except for persons who have a permanent residence or temporary residence, or a registered office, or use business premises in Tratinska Street, with a valid preferential parking ticket for block 13, would mitigate the negative impact of works that are important for the City of Zagreb on the quality of life of residents of Tratinska Street – the City explained.

Andro Pavuna, Head of the City Traffic Office, presented fifteen different infrastructure projects that will be implemented this summer across Zagreb at the end of March, and the revamp of Vukovarska is one of the most significant. On that occasion, he also mentioned that the introduction of a “brown zone” had been considered for a long time, and now they will have the opportunity to test this parking system.
