December the 5th, 2025 – Zagreb bus station, Croatia’s largest, is set to be moved to a new location as part of much wider traffic and road plans being rolled out in the city.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Zagreb bus station is likely to get a completely new address in the coming years – on the site of the former Gredelj. This was confirmed by Mayor Tomislav Tomašević in the recently aired HRT show ‘Zagrebi po Zagrebu’, in which he emphasised that this is one of the biggest traffic changes that Zagreb has planned thus far.
Despite these plans, the city administration will not have Zagreb bus station be moved before the key prerequisites are met. An Urban Development Plan still needs to be drawn up for the new location, and an agreement must be reached with HŽ, which must complete the study for the Zagreb traffic junction. Only after that is carried out and completed can specific deadlines and the appearance of the future bus station be defined.
Tomašević emphasised that only necessary interventions are currently being made at the current bus station, which has been undergoing work for some time. “Our goal isn’t for the bus station to remain at that location. We consider it a more rational solution to bring it closer to the railway station, perhaps even connect it with an underground tunnel,” revealed the mayor.
He also added that a significant part of the area of the former Gredelj already belongs to the City of Zagreb, which makes the project much more realistic. “There’s just no point in investing tens of millions of euros in an existing building if a new one is going to be built anyway,” he noted.
Mayor Tomašević also revealed another vital detail: The city was considering purchasing the building in Paromlinska, the former headquarters of Zagrebačka banka, as a temporary or permanent solution for a new station, but the owner didn’t want to sell it.
