March the 7th, 2024 – Another Zagreb earthquake in March wakes us in the capital in the very early hours of March the 7th this year.

While far from anything like the horrific experience of March 2020, which none of us who experienced will ever forget, last night we were awoken by another Zagreb earthquake, which was then followed by more trembling.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, during the night that bridged Wednesday and Thursday, two earthquakes shook Zagreb and its surroundings. The first Zagreb earthquake, with a magnitude of 1.9 on the Richter scale, struck at 01:55, with the second arriving just a few minutes later, at 01:58. According to the EMSC, the second one was even stronger, with a magnitude of 2.8 on the Richter scale, while the epicentre of the tremor was at a depth of 6 kilometres.

“During the night of March the 7th, 2024, seismographs of the Seismological Service of the Republic of Croatia recorded two weak earthquakes near Markuševec. The first occurred at 01:55 and had a magnitude of 1.9, and the second came three minutes later, at 01:58, with a magnitude of 2.8 according to the Richter scale. The estimated intensity in the epicentre was II-III degree EMS, or III-IV degree EMS,” announced the Seismological Service of the Republic of Croatia.

Although the magnitude of the Zagreb earthquake is thankfully classified as weak, hundreds of people across Zagreb reported on the EMSC application that they had been woken up by the shaking as the earthquake rattled through. Myself included.
