When one associates Croatia with water, thoughts immediately turn to the Adriatic Sea, or perhaps the majestic lakes of the national parks of Plitvice or Krka.
But there is another body of water which is equally majestic, is bringing a slow but steady increase in tourism, and is much less reported.
The Danube is one of Europe’s most famous rivers, and not so many people know that it also passes through Croatia. Along with the nearby River Drava, both are contributing to a new type of tourism in Croatia – river cruises. The numbers may be nothing compared to the giant cruise ships berthing in Dubrovnik, but it is one more small sign of the diverse nature of tourism in Croatia.
Many thanks to Romulic and Stojcic for this photo of a lone fisherman in the Croatian Danube.
