Ahearne, Rosina, 2015

Total Croatia News

Updated on:

It was Pink Day and it was this wine. In March still a sample from a barrel, in the meantime bottled in the cellar of Andro Tomić on Hvar.

The wine is signed by Joanne Ahearne, Master of Wine. Named Rosina after her mother.

The most important information is that the wine is from the Darnekuša sort. An indigenous sort from Hvar island that rarely appears on its own. A derelict Plančić vineyard of Darnekuša was officially the highest vineyard in Croatia. From the labels available on the market I am aware only of Laganini by Duboković. Not certain if it is 100% Darnekuša. I know only how valuable sound bottles of Plančić Darnekuša of 2005 and 2004 would be to me today.

Nose, depraved of banality, with a right balance that refreshes and awakens. Rosina is without a visible sugar residue, but gentle, soft acids, juicy.

Fresh strawberry of ideal ripeness is the backbone of aromatic experience. Real and root vegetables… but also some subtle sensations not easy to detect.

As the whole is drinkable, the wine easily slides along the palate and leaves a trace… persistence of good material, even with a gentle tannin grip in the after.

I cannot wait for the red wine to be ready.
