Zure, Rebellion, 2014

Unusually successful combination of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Alicante Bouschet and Plavac Mali. None of the varieties are too strong, and each gives a clear contribution to this new, unexpectedly harmonious whole.

With ripe fruit, intriguing scent occupies the attention with association of brush and stone. Youthfulness on the palate is easy to connect to the young vines on the karst of Korčula’s ‘defora’ area, where all the rain in 2014 could not harm it. This veritable youth of the vines is probably the reason why Rebellion acts as a field blend.

As for the expected concentration and strength, it seems walls could be painted with it, but despite the declared 14% and suggestion of the massive bottle, Martina can empty this one in the same evening…

Grape juice, robust and steadfast, is a true rebel only directed through schooling, not uniformed.

In the after, the melted tannin is not from wood. Plavac Mali persists here after a sip. Long after the vanilla which rounded off well the contribution of the Bordeaux varieties.

In short, true stuff… which does not exist anymore. At least not from this year. 2015 is still too raw to be estimated.
