Wine Bars in Croatia: Zinfandel in Split

Total Croatia News

“Zinfandel Food and Wine Bar” is another restaurant wine bar open in the centre of Split, at the heart of the Diocletian Palace. Since its opening in 2013, it has managed to become one of Split’s best wine bars, and the owners are equally proud of both the wines and the food, as they offer over a hundred top Croatian wines, along a passionate menu.

The atmosphere in the bar is always wonderful, as it offers relaxing and a comfortable experience in the palace, without the terrace but with an exquisite bar in the centre of the room. The menu is, as it should be, focused on local, traditional, Dalmatian seasonal ingredients, and it changes regularly to accommodate for the changing seasons. They offer the five-course tasting menu that aims to introduce you to Dalmatia in 5 courses accompanied with 5 Dalmatian wines. A popular favourite is also the breakfast (quite unusual for a wine bar, admittedly; however one of the two breakfast options is a champagne breakfast, so that makes a bit more sense), and the a la carte menu both for lunch and dinner is respectable and offer many excellent quality options for even the most demanding customer. And, of course, you can get the cheese plate or the charcuterie plate with the best Croatia has to offer on those plates to help you with yet another wonderful glass of wine.

And you can most certainly choose from some of the best Croatian wines in Zinfandel. They say that they have over 100 different wine labels at any point, and just a few of those are imported, mostly the bar is concentrated on presenting excellent Croatian wines. There are over 30 wines offered by the glass, and those represent the wonderful overview of what Croatian wines offer. (An interesting nugget of information from their wine list: they offer few crljenak wines, at least one tribidrag and a primitivo wine on their wine list – in a bar called “Zinfandel”!) Some of the wines offered by the glass are quite affordable, and some are quite high-end, so you get to taste some of the best Croatian wines without having to buy the entire bottle. And, if you really want the highest-end of Croatian wines, they also offer a bottle of archive wine, Matuško Superior Barrique 2004, and the price is not really affordable – but, for that one, it shouldn’t be!

Each Thursday, Friday and Saturday there is live music in the bar, which makes it a great place for a night out in the town,
