A seven-figure donation for the new Foundation for Athletic Excellence in Split.
The Tommy company has donated a million kuna to the Foundation for Athletic Excellence in Split. The Foundation for Athletic Excellence has been founded by the city of Split, and it will be officially presented at the Villa Dalmatia on the Split Sports Day. Its goal is to help the athletes from Split and their competitiveness on the national level. The first donation to the Foundation has been announced by the Tommy company, which will present a check for a million kuna, reports Dalmatinski Portal on September 15, 2015.
“As is already known, at the initiative of the City of Split and the Department of Sport and Sports Infrastructure, the Foundation for Athletic Excellence has been established. After the project had been presented to us at an early stage of its implementation, we have decided to give it our strong backing and have promised to support it when the project is ready for launch. Since that time has finally come, we have kept our promise in this regard and we have signed the first donation contract. We hope that this move will represent an encouragement to others to get involved in the project as well, in order to enable various athletes and sports clubs to achieve the best results possible, so that Split would justify its nickname as the Sportiest City in the World”, said the managing director of the Tommy company Tomislav Mamić.
The Foundation for Athletic Excellence will finance those clubs in team sports from Split which compete at the highest level of competition in Croatia, and those clubs which might gain such status in the future, giving the advantage to clubs which have the tradition of quality and the tradition of achieving great results in sport, as well as to those athletes and coaching staff from Split which are either not funded at all or not funded sufficiently by the national federations and the Croatian Olympic Committee.
The Foundation will be funded by donations and by organizing major sporting events, such as the Tennis Week in December of this year, which will be attended by many well-known representatives of the Croatian and world tennis.
