Mate Arapov Winner of Christmas Regatta

Total Croatia News

Mate Arapov and the crew of the Mornar sailing club on the Fatamorgana 2 sailboat are winners of the 23rd Christmas Regatta, traditionally organised by the Split club Zenta

The last of this year’s cruiser regattas welcomed 23 crews, mostly from Split clubs Mornar, Labud, Spinut, Split and Zenta, sailing two navigations of 13 nautical miles from Zenta to the Lav Hotel, across the Marjan Institute back to Zenta.

On the first day of the regatta sailing took place in weak westerly wind, and the entire route was successfully navigated only by Arapov on Fatamorgana 2, while other sailboats reached only the auxiliary finish. The second day in Split was much colder, with a northern Bura wind of 25 knots, and in such conditions only 13 crews were brave enough to start. They all sailed the entire route, with Fatamorgana 2 being fastest again, repeating the success from last year. Despite strong winds, the regatta was completed without any distress.

The Christmas regatta was the last of this year’s cruiser competitions in Croatia. The schedule for the remaining days of 2017 hold only a small regatta for smaller classes -the famed international Hvar New Year Regatta, organised by the sailing club Zvir from 28 to 31 December outside of Hvar Town.
