Wineries Feravino, Belović, Skaramuča, Belje, Iločki podrumi, Krauthaker, Kopjar, Prigora, Badel 1862, P&F Jeruzalem, Mežnarić and members of the Winemakers Association Vinistra as well as wine traders Vinolicious and Vivat are part of the show at the Wine Town opened last night as part of the Špancirfest in Varaždin.
Wine Town was formed for the first time last year at the Varaždin street festival in the courtyard of the wonderful Sermage palace on Miljenko Stančić square. In twenty stalls visitors can taste wines at very affordable prices. A specific event are themed tastings. Every day a different wine producer was on show.
This good custom continues again. Yesterday in the stall named Vina Croatia Vina Mosaica we tasted aperitif and dessert wines, themed black on white, meaning Cabernet Sauvignons and Sauvignons, while the next day we are scheduled to meet the best wines from four regions.
Monday is devoted to Riesling and Furmint, wines with pronounced sortness and terroir, Tuesday to Malvasia and Pošip, queen and king of our coast, while Wednesday for Graševina as the primary sort in Slavonia and Plavac Mali as the Dalmatian champ.
Thursday is a day of perfumes, aromatic sorts Muscat and Traminer from all parts of Croatia and in different stages of sweetness selected by me, with Friday offering gentle, soft, cuddly and elegant wines with lower alcohol content which does not reduce their complexity, Saturday for white Dalmatia and lesser known but potent sorts. On Sunday, the last day of this year’s Špancirfest and Wine Town, summer red wines will be offered that can be enjoyed in the heat with steaks, peka under the bell or, for instance, octopus goulash.
Wine Town also has its currency. By purchasing a 30 Kuna coupon, visitors can taste six superior wines and talk to the selector. Besides, bottle of popular winemakers will be sold at promotional prices.
