World Tourism Day is celebrated in one of Istria’s top destinations.

This year, Rovinj had many reasons to celebrate September 27, the World Tourism Day. In addition to the fact that it is a town which is constantly developing, on September 13, nine days earlier than last year, it has crossed the threshold of three million overnight stays, which made it the best Croatian tourist destination by the number of overnight stays for the sixth consecutive year, reports Glas Istre on September 27, 2015.

“This success is the result of all the citizens of Rovinj, both those directly involved in tourism as well as all the other citizens who live here”, said the director of the Tourist Board Odete Sapač, whose office organized the celebration of the World Tourism Day on the City Square. It was also an opportunity for a gathering of many important people in the tourist industry.

The mayor of Rovinj Giovanni Sponza pointed out that Rovinj was “perhaps a small town in terms of population, but a large one in terms of its identity”. “What makes us even more special is that this is a safe and stable town and that, in parallel with the development of tourism, we are striving for it to be a great town in terms of the quality of living for all its citizens”, said Sponza.

Istria County prefect Valter Flego recalled that Istria, together with the city of Zagreb, is the most successful region in Croatia. And that is the result of synergy between public and private initiative. “This year, as early as September 16, Istria achieved better tourist results than in the whole of last year. That is not a result of accidental tourism, but tourism which is being successfully managed. Rovinj is a pearl in the crown of tourism and the most beautiful thing we have in Istria”, said prefect Flego.

Tourism Minister Darko Lorencin reminded everyone of the fact that tourism is not just an economic activity, but an industry which enables learning, exchange of cultures, and improving the quality of lives of local population. Therefore, tourism is every man and woman in town, in the post offices, in pharmacies…, said the minister, recalling that this tourism year is the most successful in the history of Croatia.

“Rovinj has an upward trend and everyone should look up to this town. For several years you have been achieving great results and I congratulate you all, because you are creating the sort of tourism which enables us to be competitive”, said Lorencin.
