July 31, 2023 – China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), the company that constructed the Peljesac bridge, will build the Kozjak tunnel, part of the new connection between Split and the highway.
This is now official, as all the public tender deadlines have passed. Five bids were submitted to the tender, and the work, in addition to the tunnel through Kozjak, which is 2.5 kilometers long, includes the construction of a 4.3-kilometer-long road to the Adriatic highway in Kaštela, writes Poslovni/Vecernji.
The estimated value of the works is EUR 82.8 million without VAT, and CRBC gave the best offer. Due to many appeals, one year and three months passed from the announcement of the tender for the project until the opening of bids.
Croatian Roads expect the main projects to be completed by the end of August for them to be able to submit their building permit application. The public tender procedure for the selection of project supervision is also underway. Upon completion of all of the above, the prerequisites for the start of work will be created, and in the meantime, a contract for construction will be signed.
“The first phase of this project includes a tunnel through Kozjak, while the second phase is the construction of a bridge over the Kaštela Bay to the Port of Split. In this light, this project is completely justified because it relieves the existing entrance to Split”, explained the president of the board of Croatian Roads, Josip Škorić.
The bridge over the Kaštela Bay will be 1,500 meters long, and Croatian Roads has prepared a maritime study for it. Now they are starting negotiations with the harbor master regarding the conditions for the appearance of the bridge, after which a tender for architectural design should be opened.
“In fact, with this project, we want to leave an architectural monument like the Peljesac Bridge as a legacy for generations. We want the Kaštela Bay to have a bridge that will fit permanently into the space and environment”, said Škorić.
