April the 24th, 2026 – Ryanair is set to connect the cities of Zadar and Gothenburg (Göteborg) in Sweden as of the beginning of next month, further expanding Croatia’s growing list of direct connections with the rest of Europe.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, it’s a fascinating city where the past and the present naturally intertwine, creating an everyday situation in which culture, nature, food, drink and urban life are connected into a unique experience.

Gothenburg, the second largest city in Sweden and the largest port in the country, has remained in the shadow of Stockholm for years. Despite having increasingly established itself as one of the most interesting Scandinavian destinations, it has remained relatively underrated.

According to Putni kofer, an additional incentive for travel will arrive from May the 1st, when Ryanair will connect Zadar and Gothenburg through the introduction of a direct route. Flights will operate three times a week – on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays – and ticket prices currently start at around twenty euros one way, while return tickets can be found for around around 40 euros. This makes Gothenburg one of the most affordable northern European destinations for a short break yet.

The city is known for its relaxed atmosphere and strong connection to the sea, as well as its vibrant cultural scene. It is praised widely for its different festivals, excellent cuisine and numerous attractions, among which Liseberg, one of the most visited amusement parks in Europe, stands out in particular. Located in the very heart of the Gothenburg, it offers a combination of adrenaline attractions, concerts and family activities, and is especially impressive in the evening hours when it shines in thousands of lights.

The beating heart of city life is the Kungsportsavenyen avenue, which connects the historic part of the city with the cultural complex around Götaplatsen square. There are various theatres, museums and galleries there, while the avenue itself is full of restaurants, shops and nightclubs and is one of the main places to go out.

A special value of Gothenburg is its archipelago with more than 7,600 islands, one of the most indented coastal areas in all of Europe. The islands are easily reached by ferry from the port of Saltholmen, and the transport is part of the Västtrafik system. The southern archipelago, including Styrsö and Vrångö, is completely car-free, making it ideal for a peaceful escape into nature.

The decision by Ryanair to directly connect Zadar and Gothenburg will act as an additional incentive not only for Swedish tourists to visit Dalmatia, but for people from Zadar and the surrounding areas to head north for a break from the scorching sun.
