September the 3rd, 2026 – Approximately 78,000 people were formally registered as being unemployed in Croatia back in July, which is a figure that is 0.1% less than in June.
Katarina Kusec reports for Poslovni that Eurostat estimates that 13.5 million people were unemployed across the EU back in July, of whom 11.3 million were in the Eurozone. According to a report by the European statistical office Eurostat, the unemployment rate in the Eurozone and the European Union remained more or less entirely unchanged in July compared with June, while it slightly decreased in Croatia. Specifically, it stood at 6.4 percent across the Eurozone and 6.1 percent at EU level. Compared with the same month last year, the unemployment rate rose by 0.1 percentage points.
Furthermore, Eurostat estimates that 13.5 million people were unemployed across the EU in July, of whom 11.3 million were in the Eurozone. Looking at the situation on a monthly basis, the number of unemployed people fell by 41,000 across the EU, while it remained unchanged in the Eurozone. As for Croatia specifically, the unemployment rate back in July stood at 4.3 percent, which is 0.1 percentage points lower than it was in June and half a percentage point lower than in the same month in 2025. Around 78,000 people were registered as formally unemployed in July, which is 1,000 fewer than the previous month and 8,000 fewer than back in July 2025.
Countries with a lower unemployment rate than Croatia were the Czech Republic (3.3 percent), Poland (3.4 percent), Malta and neighbouring Slovenia (both 3.5 percent), Bulgaria (3.6 percent), Cyprus (3.9 percent), and Germany and the Netherlands (both 4 percent). The highest rates were recorded in Finland (10.5 percent), Spain (10 percent) and Sweden (8.7 percent). For Croatia, Eurostat also publishes quarterly data on youth unemployment. In the second quarter of 2026, that particular rate stood at 16.4 percent, with around 19,000 young people registered as formally unemployed.
